What We Do

Each of the churches has its own busy programme, but CTK seeks to work alongside these, looking for ways in which doing things together can provide effective support for one another, avoid duplication and offer an expression of the unity of Christ. Examples of the things we do are:

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

During the week in January each year we meet for midday prayers to pray for deeper unity in the church and for one another. We also share a fellowship meal one evening in the week with a speaker on a subject of relevance to all of us.

The World Day of Prayer service

This is held every year on the first Friday in March and is completely ecumenical, with the service being put together each year by groups of women from a particular part of the world.

Good Friday

On this very special day in the Christian calendar we walk together through the village and share in worship at different points on the way.

Pentecost

On this day, which we celebrate as the birthday of the Church, all the churches join for our main act of worship, often followed by a shared lunch.

Christmas

Each year CTK produces a Christmas card with information about Christmas services. We also take part in the switching on of the lights evening, with a nativity hunt.

Other events

Many of our churches organise different events, but have limited resources to run them, so they can, through CTK, invite people from other churches to help out. These have included:

  • Holiday at Home at the Methodist Church
  • Holiday Club at the Baptist Church
  • The week of prayer for the environment at the Baptist Church
  • An election hustings on poverty at the Methodist Church

Kidlington News

Kidlington News operates under the auspices of CTK, reporting on what is happening in the churches as well as the wider community. You can find the latest church reports here.

Through their success CTK have been able to offer financial support to ‘Martin’s Garden’, a community garden being developed at St John’s Church in memory of Martin Davis, Team Vicar in the Anglican Parish until his sad death in 2023, and also to finance the provision of defibrillators at St Mary’s Kidlington, St John’s, St Thomas More and the Baptist Church. In the future these will be available for life-saving treatment at closer quarters.

North Oxfordshire Community Foodbank

Members of our churches are also Trustees and Volunteers for the local Foodbank, which provides food and other necessities to local people in need of practical help. Find out more at https://northoxfordshirecommunityfoodbank.org.uk/

Environmental initiatives

CTK was at the forefront of setting up what has become the Kidlington Eco Group (KEG) and continues to support its work through its members. KEG is a community action group, seeking, alongside other community groups, to provide opportunities for people to get involved in action to protect and improve the environment. See their website.

Other financial support

CTK finances the provision of food vouchers for refugees settling in the area, helping them to adjust to a new way of life in a new country, often after traumatic experiences. CTK also financed a well-being fund at Gosford Hill School to provide support for pupils with a specific need, and a course that seeks to enable pupils to express their feelings and needs.
